Court allows time
THE Supreme Court has given 28 days to Port Moresby North East member John Kaupa and petitioner Labi Amaiu to file the necessary documents regarding a review of an earlier decision to dismiss Amaiu’s election petition. A full bench consisting Justice Berna Joan Collier, Justice Danajo Koeget and Justice Peter Toliken vacated the hearing on June 27 as Amaiu failed to attach a transcript of a previous decision that granted his application for leave to review.

Police promotion schedule
DEPUTY Commissioner (administration) Raphael Huafolo has called for a promotion schedule this year. Huafolo said in a press statement that in line with the directive issued by Police Commissioner Gari Baki’s office, he was now calling for input from all divisional commanders, provincial police commanders, metropolitan superintendents and directors.

Duma relieved
HAGEN MP William Duma says he is relieved that the election petition against him had been dismissed by the Supreme Court. Duma, who had been battling the case in court since 2017, said he had won with 29,000 votes compared with his contender James Puk on 7,000.

NCC supports culture show
THE National Cultural Commission (NCC) recently donated K5,000 to the Port Moresby National High School to support its annual cultural festival. NCC acting executive director Steven Kilanda said that while the gesture was small reflecting the current financial capacity of the agency,it was to
support and introduce cultural education in schools.
