Foreign exchange important
BANK South Pacific chief executive officer Robin Fleming says the Bank of Papua New Guinea has provided foreign exchange interventions over the past month and, most recently, last week. “Certain customers in priority sectors have been allocated foreign exchange far more promptly than in the past. This is to ensure that medical supplies, health supplies and food, as examples, do not have their supply chain impacted at a time when continuity of supply of goods is important.”

MP urges media to investigate
Communications and Information Technology Minister Timothy Masiu has urged all media outlets in the country to investigate, check and verify contents before publishing. He said “publishing misinformation or disinformation during a time of state of emergency was a serious matter”.

THE country’s micro small to medium enterprises (MSMEs) need protection in terms of government policy directives to ensure they are able to keep their businesses viable during the state of emergency period, PNG MSME Council president Des Yaninen says. Other areas requested by the council includes the protection of supply chains for businesses, especially imports of raw materials for manufacturing and transportation of agricultural produce to markets.
