Cooperation needed
A DISTRICT can deliver services sustainably in the true spirit of cooperation with all stakeholders within the district and externally including landowners, Katumani Incorporated Land Group secretary Yana Kalimin says. Kalimin said more could be achieved through closer collaboration among all district stakeholders then confrontation and isolation.

PPC denies comment
WESTERN Highlands provincial police commander Chief Insp Jacob Kamiak has denied speaking to a radio station about an ongoing tribal fight in the Dei electorate which has claimed more than 50 lives. Kamiak urged media organisations to be sensitive and seek comments from authorised persons only.

PNC backs Ame
THE People’s National Congress (PNC) party will provide strong support for Henry Ame to contest the Goroka Open by-election, deputy party leader Richard Maru says. Governor-General Grand Chief Sir Bob Dadae has deferred the issue of writs for the by-election to June 2 due to the Covid-19 state of emergency.

Nurses commended
NURSES and midwives at the Tabubil Hospital, Western, were recently praised for their hard work and dedication as part of the International Nurses Day on May 12. The celebration marked the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the founder of Modern Nursing with the theme, “Nurses a Voice to Lead: Nursing the World to Health”.

Police accused of stealing
A PORT Moresby-based businessman, Eugene Kemben, has accused police of allegedly breaking into his home and stealing over K300,000 in cash recently. A spokesperson from the Police Internal Affairs Directorate (IAD) confirmed that a formal complaint had been filed by Kemben and IAD was investigating the matter.

Market claims dismissed
MT HAGEN rural local level government president Wai Rapa has brushed aside rumours of a plan to lease the K7.5 million Mt Hagen market to a private company. Rapa said the market served hundreds of farmers and belonged to the people of Western Highlands.

Principal hails founder
A SCHOOL principal in Jiwaka has commended the founders of the province on behalf of her students. Betty Wena, of Waghi Valley Secondary School, on Monday thanked and acknowledged the efforts of the 18 surviving founders of the original 28-member group describing them “champions”. Jiwaka, comprising Anglimp South, Jimi and North Waghi districts, became a province in 2012 after originally being part of Western Highlands.

Boats capsize
THREE banana boats carrying store goods for a local businessman in Ara’ava village, Baimuru LLG, capsized at Bluff Point off Tairuma River in Kerema, Gulf, recently. Ward 14 member of Mapaio village, Lazarus Kairi, said there were no deaths and the boats with the outboard motors were retrieved the next day.
