Miner offers support
NEWCREST will be supporting the procurement of personal protective equipment (PPE) by Unicef for national distribution to the country’s frontline health workers at the cost of K1.3 million. The miner is working with the Australian department of foreign affairs and trade, the World Bank and the Japanese government to assist Papua New Guinea in its fight against the Covid-19.

Take heed of advice: Official
KOKOPO town manager Freddy Lemeki has urged the people of East New Britain to take heed of advice from authorities to prevent the spread of the Covid-19. “We are telling and encouraging people to rise up and start a new level of living standards so that people can live with the Covid-19,” he said.

Artist calls for innovation
A LOCAL artist has urged others in the industry to be innovative in order to sustain themselves during the Covid-19 crisis. Armstrong Gomara, known by his stage name Dadiigii, said almost all musicians and artists who earned money through live performances were struggling to make ends meet during the state of emergency because public gatherings were banned and clubs were closed.

Word of caution
THE West New Britain economy is vital to the national and provincial purse, hence the momentum in addressing the coronavirus must be maintained, Dr Mathias Sapuri says. Sapuri, chairman of the West New Britain health authority, praised the provincial government for taking the Covid-19 seriously and making K3 million in additional funds available to the PHA to address the health challenge.
