Respects paid to late Sir Akepa
PARLIAMENT last week observed a minute’s silence to pay respect to former member for Goroka Open and Unggai-Bena Sir Akepa Miakwe. Sir Akepa died at the age of 93 on Oct 2 in his Lahame home in the Lower Bena local level government area in Eastern Highlands.

MV Pomio to start operation
POMIO MP Elias Kapavore says that the Pomio district barge – MV Pomio – is expected to start operations on 29 of this month under the management of Rabaul Coastal Shipping. The vessel will be serving the coast of Pomio from Rabaul port, neighbouring Kandrian-Gloucestor in West New Britain and Lae in Morobe.

Training on human trafficking
A THREE-DAY training on human trafficking in Papua New Guinea was held in Kokopo, East New Britain (ENB) recently. It was facilitated by the International Organisation Migration management. ENB Family Sexual Violence Action Committee coordinator Aidah Ikilik said the training was important for people dealing with human trafficking.

Court adjourns theft case
A WOMAN accused of stealing K115,859 from another woman’s account will return to the Waigani Committal Court on Dec 9 for parties to make submissions on sufficiency of evidence. Amanda Yeou, 25, from Sossi village, Vanimo-Green in West Sepik, allegedly committed the offence from Jan 5 to May 7 2020.

Centre to help GBV survivors
MINISTER for Community Development, Youth and Religion Wake Goi says that the new community development centre in Imbonggu, Southern Highlands, will assist victims of gender based violence in the province.
