Use park for awareness: Exec
THE Port Moresby Nature Park should be seen as a partner that can help advocate and raise awareness of protected areas in Papua New Guinea, Port Moresby Nature Park chief executive officer Michelle McGeorge says. “Globally, zoos are the third highest contributor to in-situ (on site) conservation in the world and also represent a great resource for partnership collaboration, training, research and knowledge,” McGeorge said.

Call for quality road work
FORMER East New Britain governor Sir Leo Dion says companies awarded contracts to maintain roads in the province must carry out their duties with quality work to protect public funds from being wasted and misused. He claimed that public funds were wasted on poor quality roads maintainance.

Agreement unfair, says MP
KAIRUKU Hiri MP Peter Isoaimo claims the umbrella benefit sharing agreement and the landowner benefit sharing agreement are contributing to unfair distribution of benefits and wants the agreements reviewed. Isoaimo, who is also the vice-treasury minister, was speaking on the Kairuku Hiri development authority not benefitting in the last four years.

School gets new truck
THE Usino Technical High School in Madang received a new school truck on Monday thanks to lead MP Jimmy Uguro. “My plan is to initiate changes, especially the young ones, through education as a lifetime investment,” Uguro said.

Call to fight climate change
ENVIRONMENT, Conservation and Climate Change Minister Wera Mori has urged stakeholders to support each other in the fight against climate change. He said climate change was really inflicting drastic effects on the global community.

Man plants, distributes trees
A VILLAGE forester has planted gum trees and distributed some of the seedlings to schools to plant in recognition of World Environment Day last week. Peter Arem Mek, from Sigri Wara Ane village, Jiwaka, gave 300 gum tree seedlings from his nursery to Waghi Valley Secondary School last Friday.

Nasfund sets target
IN partnership with the Port Moresby Nature Park, Nasfund has set a target to plant 3,000 trees by 2030, as part of its community social responsibility. “Given the important role the natural environment in Papua New Guinea plays in the global climate, we acknowledge the need to do our bit to help ensure our natural environment is preserved for future generations,” Nasfund chief officer human capital Vincent Lialu said.

Church shows appreciation
A CHURCH congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran church of PNG in Nawaeb, Morobe, has celebrated and acknowledged its special partnership with Lutherans in Germany, Australia and the United States and thanked them for their support. Tamu Lutheran Congregation held a special church service last month to acknowledge and maintain its good working relationship and support of a partnership programme they have with the congregations in the three countries.
