Drought relief coming
DROUGHT relief supplies are expected to be distributed soon in South Fly villages in Western. This was after drought assessments were done on damaged food gardens, sago, coconut trees and water sources, an official says. Morehead local-level government manager Gantau Ninanzang said the provincial disaster office had dispatched assessment teams to South Fly district to check and collate extent of damage.

Disability group supported
EFFORTS by the Northern Coalition for Disability Rights to promote sports for persons living with disabilities have received boost, with a donation by the Oil Palm Investment Corporation (Opic) Popondetta branch. Opic Popondetta gave two volleyball nets and four balls to the organisation to promote volleyball amongst grassroots disability movements. Northern Coalition for Disability Rights executive and DPO leader, John Riroriro, said stigma and discrimination against persons with disabilities were rife at the community level.

Peace is key in Enga
Businesses and government services in Sirunki of Wabag district in Enga will continue to benefit the people in the community, says Yaskom Resorts managing director Yalson Nick Kome. “As long as we have peace and minimise law and order issues, investors will invest more and government services will remain to help meet our daily needs at our door steps,” Kome said during opening of the new balcony wing at Yaskom Resort Hotel in Sirunki last week.

Teachers get K200,000
EAST Sepik Teachers’ Association president Andrew Kopta has praised East Sepik Governor Allan Bird for coming to teachers’ aid with leave fares commitment. He thanked Bird for committing K200,000 from his discretionary funds two weeks ago for teachers in the province.
