Garry congratulated
Nauti landowners from Hidden Valley mine in Bulolo district, Morobe, have congratulated Jerry Garry on his appointment as managing director for Mineral Resource Authority. Nauti landowners’ grievances committee chairman Ben Joseph said it was time someone like Garry provided leadership to address issues affecting resources owners in the country. He said Nauti landowners have been the worst-affected landowner group and had been ignored and neglected over the years.

No change to GST
There are no changes to the goods and services tax (GST), says Internal Revenue Commission (IRC) Commissioner Dr Alois Daton. Daton told the media recently that the Government had not enacted any laws to increase the 10 per cent tax on goods and services. It, therefore, still remains the same.

Tax imposition affects people
AN LLG leader in Kairuku-Hiri district, Central, says the Government’s new tax imposition of K15 on a kg of dried sea cucumber (beche-de mer) will greatly affect his people as they will be paid lower prices by buyers and exporters. “This will be a slap on the face for the fishermen, who would not make much out of their marine resource,” Tasmann Taumaku said.

Damage to base fixed
A maintenance team from the Ramu NiCo Management and Raibus Engineering Ltd has fixed damages done to glass panels at the company’s operation base last week. The company said in a statement that the damages were caused last December when a group of so-called “landowners” from Bundi stormed the premises.
