Bring back district celebration

Letters, Normal

I TAKE this opportunity to thank our patriotic elders who brought us this far.
It is because of them that we have a country called PNG.
It is such a wonderful feeling to be part of this great nation but, retrospectively, how much have we developed and achieved?
Port Moresby and other towns appear to be developing at the expense of many rural areas.
If we have developed our districts, the ideal location for celebrating the 35th independence would be in the districts, not in towns and cities.
I remember in 1980s, independence was celebrated with pride in our districts.
Our MPs always arranged events to mark the day with the little funds they had.
They were also in their electorates together with their people and celebration was well coordinated.
But today, this is hardly practised despite MPs getting millions of kina.
