PNGNRL Bid yesterday announced what NCD Governor Powes Parkop called the “real deal” which is a long term partnership with NRL club Brisbane Broncos in Port Moresby.
Chairman of PNGNRL Bid and Sports Minister Philemon Embel confirmed the historical agreement.
“This is another great achievement for the bid. This partnership will deliver strong game development outcomes and ensure that we can learn how to build a successful rugby league culture and business model.
“Our investment in this partnership is about providing assistance to advance rugby league in PNG. It will also lay the foundation around building a strong PNG Bid branch and create awareness that we need as we move towards establishing ourselves as a highly competitive franchise bid,” he said
Brisbane Broncos chief executive officer Paul White said the partnership was more than a commercial sponsorship arrangement.
“The Broncos are all about partnership, relationship and providing assistance to advance the game in PNG. Our partnership will provide long term solution and infrastructure around game development, commercial capability and accountability.”
A major component of the partnership agreement is that a fulltime PNG Bid/Broncos game development officer will be engaged to deliver long term development goals.
Shane Morris, the current Brisbane Broncos game development manager, has agreed to join the PNGNRL Bid team in a similar position.
The role will include continuing the roll-out of the PNG All Schools programme including conducting elite talent camps, implementing scholarship opportunities and coaching and referee accreditation programmes.
