Broncos to make tough calls

BRISBANE: Livid Brisbane boss Paul White admits he can’t “rose colour” the Broncos’ embarrassing NRL finals exit and says decisions on their future player roster will be made in the coming weeks.
White said the Broncos’ effort in their record 58-0 elimination final loss to Parramatta was not good enough and backed the club to take action in an end of season review led by coach Anthony Seibold.
Some Broncos players may face a nervous future after White yesterday opted to post a video on the Brisbane website venting his frustration over the 11-tries- to-nil rout at Bankwest Stadium.
“It will be up to the coaching staff and the players to review the year,” White said.
“That will happen over the next couple of weeks.
“Once we have all the information at hand it will give us a position on which to make decisions about not only next year but beyond next year.”
White didn’t mince his words, saying the Broncos were hurting and would not waste time demanding answers after a humiliating end to their NRL finals campaign.
“There is no one here trying to rose colour that result,” he said.
“There were some promising things that occurred in 2019, the debut and emergence of some of that young playing group which in essence will become the part of the immediate future of this club.
“But it is about what is at hand and our last result was 80 minutes which wasn’t good enough and we need to take the lessons from that.”
But White promised fans Brisbane would bounce back stronger in 2020.
“We understand how much our members, supporters and sponsors are hurting and I just want to let them know we are all hurting here as well,” he said.
“But we are back here doing our job and that is what their expectation should be – that we get back to work.”
Meanwhile, former Brisbane captain Kevin Walters admitted some tough off-season roster calls would have to be made after claiming teenage forwards David Fifita and Payne Haas helped the Broncos scrape into the finals in eighth spot.
“I think it’s unfair for guys like David Fifita and Payne Haas to be carrying this club,” he said.
“They’ve essentially picked the whole team up and dragged them over the line — it’s unfair to put that expectation on these kids.
“They’ve got to have a good look at themselves from the top down to see how they get better.” – AAP

  • As a Broncos die-hard fan, member ship card# 5388, am very sorry n really disappointed with the club’s history about being defeated in the score line of zero, I thought the CEO,the Head Coach, the coaching staff all should be held responsible because of the CEO n his team for revoking Wayne’s contract n bringing in Anthony for 5yrs, do not blame the captain and entire players shift to the CEO n his team for their decision n entire coaching staff, all this top official contact s to the club should be terminated effective immediately before 2020 season starts.
