The National – Wednesday, July 27th 2011

THE Brisbane Broncos will dedicate this Friday night’s clash with the Cronulla Sharks at Suncorp Stadium to Papua New Guinea.

The players will wear specially-produced socks bearing the PNG national colours on what they have dubbed “PNG Day”.

Bid CEO Brad Tassell and Sports Minister Philemon Embel were in Brisbane recently to discuss the day and finalise details for the match.

They also attended the Broncos-Titans match on July 15 and met Broncos players after the game.

A night of celebration has been planned for the Round 21 event where the Broncos players will be wearing the PNG coloured socks.

The socks will be autographed by each player after the match and presented to the PNG NRL Bid.

PNG NRL Bid CEO Brad Tassell said: “There is no doubt PNG will stop and watch the pre-game event and the game with great pride.

“Not only will we celebrate our passion for rugby league and our desire to be included in the NRL competition but we will show Australia that both rugby league and music has the power to unite our nation.

The Sing Sing Tribe will perform the NRL Bid song and a newly-produced Broncos club song live before the match.

Tassell said the event was about showcasing PNG as a nation.

As part of PNG Day, the PNG NRL Bid will be showcased at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night in more ways than one.

The players will show their support for PNG to be the next NRL franchise by wearing PNG socks and there is a marketing drive to get as many PNG nationals to Suncorp Stadium.

“And there will be one very special moment –rising star Honlly Isaac will lead the PNG NRL Bid Sing Sing Tribe onto the field for the pre-match entertainment.”

Isaac and the tribe including female singing sensation Sentanya Haoda and local favourite Henry Gewang will perform the PNG NRL Bid theme song written by Isaac with other national favourites.
