PANDA Brothers defeated Sangu Knights 20-16 in the Wabag rugby league A grade grand final to claim the premiership title.
Brothers took out the Governor’s Shield and the K3,000 prize money last weekend.
In front of the capacity crowd at Johnson Siki Oval on Saturday, the Brethrens showed more determination holding their opponents by four points to take out the title.
Both teams displayed fast pace and good ball handling skills that kept the crowd on their toes throughout 80 minutes of football.
Brothers scored 12 minutes into the match tireless skipper Young Pes set up highlands zone representative prop forward Richard Sikikali in the corner to take a 4-0 lead.
Knights replied minutes later with a converted try to Sam Pilyo after some sleek ball movement to lead 6-4.
However, the lead was short-lived when Pes, who was again instrumental, set up another try for Hani Sande to take Brothers to an 8-6 lead at the break.
In the second half, both teams shifted to top gear testing each other with barnstorming runs and bone-crushing tackles.
Knights scored two tries early in the second half to lead 12-8, but Brothers also came back strongly with two tries to seal a 20-16 win.
In the U19 division grand final, Finlorm Hawks edged Sangu Knights 12-10 to pick up Wabag mayor’s shield and K1,500 prize money.
A total of K10,000 in prize money was distributed to the finalists and players for outstanding performances during the presentation night.
