Brothers have score to settle with Yokomo
The National, Friday March 28th, 2014
THERE will be no love lost when the United Brothers and Yokomo lock horns in the semi-final of the Port Moresby men’s A grade softball competition on Sunday.
Minor premiers United Brothers, led by Dick Bart Jr, pictured, will lift their performance against the red-hot Yokomo side.
Both Brothers and Yokomo won one game apiece during the normal season, and this is the hour everyone is waiting to see who will win the match that counts.
The winner will advance to grand final to take on Gazelle.
Gazelle booked the first final berth after disposing Brothers 5-2.
Yokomo manager Hulala Tokomo said the players had been training hard all week preparing for “the match of their lives”.
Making errors under pressure is something they want to avoid. The team would rely on pitcher Kelly Upaupa and catcher Dwayne Chan to ensure they restrict Brothers from advancing to bases.
The team will be hoping to repeat their exceptional batting display from last week against Bears and Brown Eagles to blow brothers away early in the piece.
Meanwhile, Brothers captain Bart is counting on his senior players in Adrian Chan, Gerard Pokanau, Tony William, Raymond Diou and Darius Sailas to create enough opportunities to win them the game.
Many in the softball fraternity have said this match could actually out-shine the grand final with both sides capable of explosive play and determined to progress to the final.
In the B grade final, PNG Power take on Brown Eagles.
Both teams are evenly-matched, and it should be a great final for the up-and-coming players. The winner meets minor premiers Defence in the grand final next week.
