BROTHERS made their title aspiration known after they beat reigning A-grade champions Tarangau 16-0 in round six of the Port Moresby Rugby Football League competition on Sunday.
A strong first half from Brothers saw them open the scoring with two quick tries through second-rower Digine Dawa and centre Japheth Oka to lead 10-0.
Tarangau came under pressure late in the opening half as the Bomana side struggled in defence at the Oil Search National Football Stadium.
Brothers dominated possession to send halfback Joel Tapie over for their third try and five-eight Paul Tapee added the extras for a 16-0 lead at halftime.
Tarangau regrouped in the second half with lock Sydney Mara leading their attack. Poor handling from Brothers invited Tarangau into their territory but poor execution from the Tarangau backline saw them bomb two tries.
Brothers’ late attempt for a fourth try through bench player Noni Bomai was foiled by the Tarangau defence.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Butterflies crushed Gulf West 30-6 and Paga Panthers sank Royals 10-4 to retain pole spot.
“Matches have been progressing well,” league administrator Meke Maino said. A
“We will be posting the updated ladders for all divisions this week.
“This week will also see a club delegates meeting.
“We expect club representatives to attend the meeting as we have more issues to discuss as the season progresses.”
