REIGNING champions Brothers will look to retain their Sports Tok Sevens title when the rugby union tournament kicks off at Bava Park in Port Moresby this weekend.
Trainer Eugene Tokavai said his Brothers had committed themselves to training and were looking forward to their title defence.
“We will do everything possible to retain the title,” the former Papua New Guinea Pukpuk said.
Brothers have retained the majority of their 2021 title-winning winning roster, including Wesley Vali, Arthur Clement and Emil Latumahina.
Tokavai said he was confident of positive results against East New Britain Davapias, Garambes and Moni Plus-sponsored Novas in pool A. “Most of our players are at the peak of their game,” he said.
“We have a few new players who will continue to be mentored by our experienced campaigners.
“The general outlook of the team is pleasing and we expect a good campaign.”
Tokavai said consistency was crucial to their hopes of retaining the title.
“I know that rival teams will want to win the Cup from us,” he said. “But we will give them a tough contest.”
Brothers will take the field in a new outfit for the fifth edition of the annual tournament.
“We’re fortunate to receive a new set of jerseys from the tournament organisers,” Tokavai said.
“This will boost our morale for the tournament.”
The Brothers secured last year’s title from Lae’s P.C Ravens.
