MOREGUINA Brothers defeated favourites Cocolands 20-18 to take out the major crown in the Moreguina Rugby League nines grand final in front of a capacity crowd in Newtown district, Abau, last Friday.
The match was controlled by a senior referee from the Port Moresby rugby league, Avis Vanua.
Brothers led 16-0 at the break and continued their solid defence in the second half forcing their opponents to create errors, which they capitalised on to score points.
Despite that, Cocolands made a strong second half comeback to narrow the gap to within two points (20-18).
However, with few minutes remaining the game had to be called off due to fading light and the association president Ipai Zakaria and his executives resolved to award the game to Brothers.
