FULLBACK Norman Brown claimed his second Digicel Cup title in three years when his Hela Wigmen beat reigning champions Lae Tigers 16-14 in the grand final in Port Moresby on Sunday.
Brown, who will turn 23 next month, told The National on Sunday that it was a blessing for him to reach the decider and claim another premiership.
The Eastern Highlander, from Unggai, made his Digicel Cup debut with the Goroka Lahanis in 2018 and won the title in his rookie season.
“This was my second grand final appearance and I think I was more relaxed this time,” Brown said.
“In 2018 with the Lahanis, it was my debut year but I did well in the grand final and I won my first title then.
“Last year, I was with the Lahanis and we got knocked out in the minor semifinal.
“This year, another grand final and to win my second title is a blessing and I am proud.
“It’s just a wonderful feeling.”
Brown first played the sport in Unggai before he moved to the provincial capital of Goroka in 2017.
While in Goroka, the youngster played for Hela Massey and a number of village teams that took part in Gahuku league and that was where he caught the eyes of Lahanis selectors. He said his short-term goal was to make next year’s SP Hunters train-on squad.
