Bank South Pacific (BSP) is now accepting UnionPay scheme cards on its Eftpos and ATMs in the country.
The acceptance of UnionPay scheme cards on BSP Eftpos and ATMs was successfully implemented and made effective earlier this month with the launch yesterday at The Stanley Hotel, Port Moresby.
Group chief executive officer Robin Fleming yesterday said: “This is a key milestone for BSP as we prepare for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting.
“As the leading bank in the South Pacific, we will continue to ensure that we provide services that meet global standards, while ensuring that locally, it is convenient and secured and protects our local merchants against counterfeit cards and reduces liability risk as they meet the needs of our international visitors.
“We also acknowledge the support partnership between UnionPay International (UPI) and BSP, enabling BSP to extend our reach, while at the same time offering convenience for a wider customer base.”
UPI cardholders will be able to use their UPI Chip Cards at BSP digital services via Eftpos and ATM services in Port Moresby, including contactless transactions via ‘Touch & Go’ on BSP merchant terminals.
The roll out across the country commencing this month will see BSP Eftpos and ATM network acceptance of the UPI Chip Card completed early next year.
