PAPUA New Guinea Volleyball Association Incorporated is optimistic about the success of this year’s national championships following Bank South Pacific’s (BSP) injection of K50,000.
BSP presented the cheque to the association to support the national Under-21 indoor championships and the national open indoor championships from Nov 5-10.
When presenting the cheque to association president Kila Dick, BSP corporate sponsorship manager Amelia Minnopu said: “The bank supports a wide range of sports and events, and volleyball is one of the many codes that we support at the national level.
“We believe our support will create opportunities for new talents, build relationships, achieve meaningful results and help the sport reach its full potential.”
Dick said: “This is the second year BSP has supported the association to host its national championships and we highly appreciate the support.
“I am delighted and humble to have BSP as our major sponsor for the second-straight year.
“The funds will assist us to host the open and U12 championships.
“Volleyball is one of the 11 sports that were granted PNG Sports Foundation approval recently to continue its games after the Covid-19 lockdown. We ensure that the Covid-19 measures and protocols are followed.
“Therefore, the association has secured the Sir John Guise Indoor Complex and Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Centre to host the championships.”
The championships will attract 56 teams from around the country, including Wewak, Goroka, Lae, Butibum, Hula, Ianawabui and Manus. Port Moresby’s Vabukori, Fairfax, National Capital District Volleyball, Kauka, Manubada, Fisherman Island, Poreporena, Tatana and Taikone will also compete in the championships.
