BANK South Pacific has reached out to the people of former Morobe colonial administration post to offer banking services.
Apart from setting up a BSP agent at Ozai Trading shop in Moubera village recently, the rural banking team also visited villages that included Eware, Bosadi, Zigori, Amoa, Maiama, Morobe station in the north and Sapa, Toyare Primary and Morobe technical High Schools in the south coast.
Team member Gaora Mewa said rural people, particularly the public servants, required such services to save them time and money travelling to the urban centres just to bank.
The service would also be brought to Morobe station as soon as a police unit was brought to the area.
Mewa said close to 500 villagers opened new accounts and deposited their cash, with the members of the rural police unit, who were on duty, being the first to withdraw money.
Banking, postal and other services stopped when police service was withdrawn from the village in mid-2000.
“I hope our Huon Gulf MP Ross Seymour, council president Otti Bagiro and manager Essing Ulam will help to improve the living condition in the area,” Mewa said.
Councillors for Moubera Dos Serosero and Eware Andrew Tera said it was surprising for the villagers to see banking services right in their village.
