THE only radiotherapy and oncology clinic in Papua New Guinea, at the Angau Memorial Hospital in Lae, Morobe province, has been given an upgrade.
The upgrade is part of Bank South Pacific’s community project for this year. All three bank branches in Lae combined resources and manpower to help deliver the project with the help of contractors.
This is the third time BSP had stepped in to help the Angau Memorial Hospital through its community projects.
Bank chief executive officer Ian Clyne was in Lae to hand over the completed project in a small ceremony.
The bank constructed a storage room for chemotherapy drugs, bought needed equipment such as laboratory goggles and gowns, surgical masks and gloves, a split air-conditioning unit, a fridge, intravenous fluids and a pedestal fan.
The bank bought a new computer and the software required to help in therapy. The software will be sourced from Australia.
“We are proud to say that BSP is a leader in supporting community initiatives, projects and programmes that make meaningful and lasting change in communities.
“This commitment is testament in today’s ceremony, where BSP is handing over another worthy community project – an upgraded facility that will serve cancer patients from around PNG,” he said.
He said it was pleasing to note that the success of the bank’s community projects was the result of its staff who took time off on weekends to work with the communities.
