THE Cheshire Disability Services in Port Moresby on Saturday received two new barbecue stands from Bank South Pacific to help in their weekly Saturday morning sausage sizzle fundraising activity at Boroko Foodworld in Gordon.
The new stands were a response from chief executive officer Ian Clyne who, the week before last, noticed that the Cheshire home operated a barbecue stand that was old and not in good working condition.
He said as part of BSP’s community service, they were presenting the stands to the patrons of Cheshire, and helping to cook and sell the hotdogs to shoppers.
This was the second Saturday for BSP executive members to help prepare, cook and sell the hotdogs while appealing to the shoppers for donations towards the daily care of Cheshire Home and its residents.
Cheshire Services work on the mission to work with and empower persons with disabilities for an inclusive and productive community.
They recognise that people with a disability are likely to experience higher levels of vulnerability than other members of the community.
Monies raised from the hotdog sales and donations are spent on supporting everyday living, which includes a wide range of services such as self-reliance, physiotherapy, art and craft and other life-skills programmes for the residents.
One other service provided by Cheshire is inclusive education for disabled children and early childhood learning for non-disabled children.
