Gerehu General Hospital in Port Moresby has had its toilet, ablution blocks and waiting area renovated by Bank South Pacific.
The community project was undertaken by staff from the bank’s Group Risk Management Unit (GRMU) and subsidiary company, BSP Capital Ltd.
Hospital chief executive Dr Steven Yennie described the improvements as “a show of appreciation for health workers and staff of the hospital”.
“We have a vision for the hospital, in terms of service delivery and infrastructure development,” he said.
“While we work on funding for these projects, we are grateful for BSP’s assistance.”
The hospital treats up to 600 patients daily.
BSP Capital’s general manager Gheno Minia said the bank saw the need of the hospital and made a committment to help as part of its community project programme.
He said BSP would deliver 45 community projects in 2018 through its branches and strategic business units.
Minia said it would invest over K1.1 million in those projects.
The project was one of 17 that have been completed.
