BSP improves mobile banking services

CUSTOMERS can register for Bank South Pacific (BSP)’s mobile banking using smart devices when the bank rolls out its e-Form technology next month, chief executive officer Robin Fleming said.
“Next month, enhancements in BSP’s technology for our branchless banking service will enable customers to register for mobile banking service with the completion of an e-Form (electronic form),” Fleming said.
“This will make it easy for the customers to register via tablet technology without going into a branch.
“For security measures, customers are advised not to use the same number for the Card PIN as they use for their ATM withdrawals and Eftpos transactions.
“Maintaining and using only one mobile telephone number reduces the need to go through a re-registration process for BSP’s Mobile Banking services.
“Many of the additional security measures adopted by BSP have been introduced to reduce the risk of a customer’s account being accessed fraudulently.
“Currently BSP mobile banking (previously known as SMS Banking) registration requires our customer to complete a registration form and present it at the branch for a quick on-boarding process,” he said.
“Part of on-boarding includes a capture of facial image via web cam in the branch, and for existing customers of the bank.
“The branch will check all customer records are updated as per Know-Your-Customer (KYC) standards.
“In the best interest of the customer and to protect the security of our customers’ accounts, mobile banking services will store only one mobile number for each customer,” Fleming said.
“For existing customers who were registered with a different telephone number or a different mobile network, they will have to advise the branch staff of the new details so amendments are made to previous records in order to successfully register the new mobile number.
“Once the service is activated, the mobile banking menu will display on the phone and customers can start using the service by performing a balance check, top-up to phone credits or transfer money to other accounts.”
Fleming said customers would then be able to access their accounts using their mobile log on credentials anytime and anywhere.
