BSP lights up remote school in Enga with solar power

Pilakambi Secondary School at Lagaip-Porgera in Enga has become one of the first remote schools in the province to have solar lights in classrooms and dormitories – thanks to Bank South Pacific.
The installation of the lights was a BSP Wabag branch project.
The solar panels and lights were installed by the bank staff with the help of a local contractor. The bulbs are LED fittings.
Wabag branch manager Thomas Tembil said: “BSP believes that providing solar lights to schools will help improve literacy rates and results.
“With these lights now installed for the school, it may now enhance the learning ability of the students in terms of night studies and also provide a safe and reliable study environment.”
The Pilikambi project is one of 46 the bank plans for this year.
