THE Bank  South Pacific (BSP) staff of Mendi, Southern Highlands province recently used their weekend to conduct three fund raising activities to help refurbish Mendi General Hospital wards.
Led by their branch manager David Wasape, the staff turned out in full force to do a wheelbarrow push and walkathon from Lumbi to Mendi town last month.
Money was also raised by the staff through their own in-house appeal and contributions.
Mr Wasape said this community assistance programme was an annual event funded by the bank to assist the people of PNG to access better services in their respective communities.
He said the BSP Mendi branch chose to assist the Mendi General Hospital in consideration of the good work the hospital board and staff had done in caring for our sick and injured over the years.
He said after the fundraising, and as a token of appreciation, BSP Mendi donated 120 new mattresses to refit the hospital wards.
They also donated a further K5,000 in cash for the hospital to buy vinyl covers for the new mattresses.
Mr Wasape said though the donation might not seem significant, they believed they had assisted so the hospital could save much needed funds for other important purposes.
