BSP reopens sub-branch in Kerema after break-in

BANK South Pacific Financial Group Ltd (BSP) reopened its Kerema sub-branch on Monday, nine months after it was shut down following a break-in.
According to BSP, on Dec 12, 2020, BSP Kerema sub-branch was broken into by criminals with approximately K220,000 in cash stolen.
As a result, the sub-branch was closed to allow for police investigations to be carried out.
BSP carried out repairs to improve security at a cost of more than K200,000, with the Gulf government providing financial support for the repairs.
BSP group chief executive Robin Fleming said the bank was pleased to resume services in Kerema.
He said this was the third instance where BSP had reopened doors due to theft and robbery at the branch.
“Any further criminal act against Kerema branch will make it difficult for BSP to once again consider re-opening the sub-branch,” he said.
Fleming said BSP sub-branches in rural areas were increasingly becoming frequent targets of criminal activities, which not only cost money for BSP to repair but also put the provision of banking services at risk for customers who relied on BSP in their local communities.
The Kerema sub-branch reopening will bring essential banking services once again to the people of Gulf.
The bank called on all stakeholders and the community to take care of the branch and its staff.
