BSP selects 50 schools in Pacific to in school beautification competition

FIFTY schools in seven Pacific countries including Papua New Guinea have been selected by Bank South Pacific to participate in a school beautification project competition.
Bank’s Go Green event coordinator Amelia Minnopu said a total of K45, 500 would be awarded as cash prizes. She said the selected schools for PNG would be announced soon.
“The objective of the competition this year is to educate youngsters about sustainability of flora by planting trees, flowers and or recycling to avoid waste,” Minnopu said.
The competition will begin this week and end on Aug 24.
It will involve schools from PNG, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands and Vanuatu.
Minnopu said the schools would be judged under two categories: Beautifying school and arts and crafts using recycled materials.
“Students will be required to showcase their creativity in designing and developing school gardens using recycled materials in arts and crafts, or incorporate them into the design of their gardens,” she said.
Minnopu said the winner for each category in primary and secondary schools would receive K3000, runner-up K200 and People’s Choice K1500.
Each student in winning school classes also receives a BSP merchandise pack.All participating schools take home a certificate of participation from BSP.
