POWES Parkop’s intention to ban buai in the National Capital District is seriously flawed.

Such a  policy is based on wrong perspectives and advice.

I am not a buai chewer and hate the slime produced by it.

However, the buai trade is the backbone of the capital’s economy.

Once it is banned, what is happening to India over onions, will happen in NCD.

The economy will experience a big slowdown.

The implications will be bad for everyone.

It will be felt by everyone, even those who do not chew buai.

Without the buai business a good number of people will resort to crime and prostitution. Others will be homeless on the streets.

Surely, something  mo-re innovative and comprehensible can be done.

I suggest that the governor control and tax wholesalers as well as enforce the regulations that govern the trade.
