THE free education policy should be maintained beyond 2012, a former politician said.
David Bue, the Sohe MP from 1987 to 1992, thanked the government for the policy saying it was an investment that will affect lives, the economy and national well-being of people.
He urged the government to go a step further and provide free health and other vital services, subsidise airfares and cater for the basic needs of ordinary citizens.
“The government must also consider introducing free services such as health and reduce airfares and freight costs to allow the flow of services and access to markets at affordable rates for ordinary Papua New Guineans,” he said.
“The government has listened to the people and delivered a budget that will improve the lives of Papua New Guineans. It is really encouraging to see the government achieving tangible results in such a short period of time.”
He appealed to citizens to help government agencies eradicate corruption which he said “is causing suffering to people due to lack of services imposed by corrupt practices”.
