To understand “knowledge society” and what it means is very important for any individual who is interested in earning a better living. However, we must first be able to define and understand these two important words which are ‘knowledge’ and ‘society.’Knowledge is what is known. It is what we can achieve by learning new things every day and it involves certain processes like; communication; education and common sense. A society is a body of individuals coming from different cultural background but all living together because they share a common interest. Now, the term Knowledge Society refers to any society that believes that knowledge is more powerful and important than money, period. If we could forget about money and believe that gaining knowledge is our ultimate goal then what does building our knowledge society means?
Communication is vital for any form of development. In order for us to build a knowledge society, a politician must be able to communicate with a blind person or a business student can discuss economics with a professional accountant. My point being, it doesn’t matter if you work or are majoring in the same field or not, all that matters is that, we can communicate and relate to each other by sharing knowledge.  And I believe that Building Our Knowledge Society through Communication will create more opportunities for development.
Education is a universal right for everyone. To build our own knowledge society requires the need to read and comprehend what is given to us.  Developing our skills through education enables us to relate to people, situations, or get involve in infrastructures to make life better. For instance, by linking villages to towns, introducing wireless phones or distance education to remote areas etc.  Building a knowledge society doesn’t always require foreign aid or assistance. I believe that building our knowledge society through Education; will bring in more development to PNG. Left alone a true Papua New Guinean will educate another Papua New Guinean and share knowledge.
And finally we can build our knowledge society if all of us are willing to put into full practice our reasoning skills. I believe that a proactive person contributes fairly to a knowledge society. For instance Mr. Cactus sees that Mary wants to be a doctor but her parents are persuading her to take up law. Long before the time to fill out the school leavers’ form, Mr. Cactus sits with Mary’s parents and simply tells them the truth that Mary will contribute actively to the medical world than law. Mary is now a qualified doctor and is saving lives. This is building our knowledge society through common sense (reasoning).
To conclude I believe that building our own knowledge society will be a great leap to success for Papua New Guineans. This achievement may paint a good picture of our country but what matters most is the people’s capacity to hold the amount of knowledge shared among them.
Building our own knowledge society means, using our reasoning skills to communicate and educate people of all walks of life. Teach a grandmother or a child how to read and they will engage in building our own knowledge society.
