BANK South Pacific will upgrade the Buimo jail health clinic in Lae as the first community project in its 2013 programme. It started with a launching ceremony at the clinic last Thursday.
Three BSP Lae branches would combine their resources such as funds and people to upgrade the rundown clinic. “The upgrade will see a full reconstruction on the existing facility, including the replacement of termite-infested treatment and examination room. Air-conditioning unit, ceiling fans and lights will also be installed,” BSP said in a statement.
Buimo Correctional Services (CS) commander Simon Sobaim said he was grateful to BSP for its commitment in not only providing banking service but for reaching out to the communities in a meaningful way.
He said the clinic provided health services to thousands of people in the surrounding Buimo, Bundi Camp and Taraka suburbs apart from Buimo CIS personnel and inmates.
The CS nursing officers, who worked at the clinic, were also thankful for improved health facilities so they could help deliver much-needed services to the community.
BSP Lae branches also helped upgrade the Angau Memorial Hospital’s radio therapy and oncology clinic wings.
“As the only home-grown bank in Papua New Guinea, such is our commitment. We truly understand that we have the opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting difference where it matters most,” the statement
said.BSP said it started its community projects in 2009 and had invested back more that K2 million.
