A FATAL road accident on the Sir Hubert Murray Highway claimed another life over the weekend in Port Moresby.
Greg Sihono, in his mid-thirties, from Malasang village in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, died last Saturday around 2am.
NCD divisional commander Fred Sheekiot said Sihono was driving a White Isuzu PMV truck registration at the time of the incident.
He said Sinoho and his wife were returning home from a fundraising dinner held at the Hideaway Hotel.
“The deceased was driving at high speed when he lost control of the vehicle at the 5-Mile National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) corner towards Boroko.
“Sinoho died instantly when the vehicle slammed head on into the fence of the NBC premises, fracturing his skull. His wife sustained minor injuries.”
Police investigations are still continuing.
Sheekiot appealed to the public to take precautions when driving and to avoid drink-driving come this festive season.
Meanwhile, he thanked the government in appointing acting commissioner of police Anthony Wagambie and acting deputy commissioner Fred Yakasa and pledging his full support.
“I give my full loyalty and support for both men and welcome also NCD Metropolitan Supt Joe Tondop who will assist central provincial police commander John Maru and I to address law and order in the city,” he said.
He further urged all police personnel in NCD to work together in ensuring a safer festive season for everyone.
