Northern Motel Bulldogs will make their sixth Popondetta Rugby League grand-final appearance when they take on Sambogo Eels on Sunday.
Five-time champions Bulldogs, who bagged the A-Grade minor premiership for the sixth consecutive time, remain unbeaten all season.
Major sponsor and Sohe MP Henry Amuli will kick off the grand finals and officiate during the presentation of the winners’ trophy and awards.
Amuli, who backed the competition with K100,000, is also the sponsor of the Kokoda Rangers in their rookie season.
Popondetta Rugby League president Peter Oresi said the New South Wales Young Achievers will play a Popondetta select side in the curtain-raiser.
Oresi said the curtain-raiser was part of promoting the sport in Northern.
He also thanked MP Amuli for coming on board to the rescue the league this season.
“We are an affiliated league to PNG Rugby Football League and this season was like a rebuilding phase under my leadership,” Oresi told The National.
“This is going to be another hectic weekend to end the season and I appeal to all the club officials, players and supporters to refrain from causing trouble during the grand finals.
“We all should maintain the good spirit, the Oro way.
“Let’s all work together to end the season peacefully and in style.”
