NEW franchise club, Bulolo United made a grand entry into the Telikom National Soccer League challenge with a 3-1 hammering of NBS Tukoko University in Lae on Saturday,
The victory also sounded a warning to the other franchise clubs that they will be a side to be reckoned with this season.
With the majority of the players plucked out from the mining townships of Wau and Bulolo in Morobe, they have gained respect as a replacement of defunct Morobe Kumuls in the semi-professional soccer league.
Former Tukoko (Eagle), and current Bulolo midfielder Moses Sine performed exceptional well.
Bulolo United started celebrating five minutes into the game when Yama Shong blasted the opening goal.
Bulolo United continued to dominate the game in attack forcing their opponents to create mistakes in their own half which they capitalised on.
Shong, who featured for defunct Madang Fox in previous seasons, scored his second goal from a penalty kick. He pushed the shot to the far right of Tukoko goalkeeper Anton Pipi.
Tempos started to rise as they continued to threaten the Tukoko’s goal area which resulted in Gamaya Dimur tapping into the net.
It send their fans crazy after realising that Bulolo United were about to create one of the biggest upsets in the season opener.
However, striker Danny Banaba scored a consolation goal for Tukoko through a header.
Bulolo United will host reigning champions Hekari United at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium on Saturday.
The trio of Rodney Baube, Givi Yalabing and Nobby Pamble provided a strong defence to keep their opponents at bay.
