TOP female sprinter Betty Burua flew to Brisbane today for one more week of training with coach Lloyd Way before returning to the United States to continue her athletic scholarship at the University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff.

Burua was in Brisbane for six weeks after returning from the Commonwealth Games last October before returning to PNG for a brief visit to renew her American visa.

In Melbourne earlier this month Burua and Salome Dell both ran superbly in a 600m race featuring Australia’s top 800m runner Tamsyn Lewis.

Dell broke her own national record in a time of 1:32.44 with Burua right with her clocking 1:32.45

PNGAU president Tony Green said that Burua would go straight into indoor competition next month and then compete outdoors in March and April.

Her time training in Brisbane both before and after the Commonwealth Games had been beneficial for her preparations next season.
