THE proposed Central City at Bautama along the Magi Highway has the support of Port Moresby’s business sector.
Chamber of Commerce and Industry president David Conn said the proposed development on the eastern side of the NCD/Central border would release pressure on roads and infrastructure in the nation’s capital.
“It would be good to see satellite townships like Central City go ahead after all the years of planning and investment in consultants with really very little to show for it,” he said.
“Central having its own economic focus would naturally be beneficial.”
He said the development would also alleviate accommodation stress in Port Moresby.
Conn added that an overall plan was needed for NCD and Central to serve each other.                                                                     “There are mutual benefits for both but only proper, advanced, well-thought out planning will realise this,” he said.
Central Governor Kila Haoda had said earlier that an advisory committee had been negotiating with investors and stakeholders to get the project off the ground.
