NATIONAL Capital District Governor Powes Parkop said the Coronavirus (Covid-19) is here to stay and businesses by now should be operating with preventive measures.
He said this during the opening of the refurbished Waigani Puma service station in Port Moresby yesterday.
Parkop said his administration would advocate for no lockdowns in the nation’s capital.
“We should accept living with the Covid-19, we have done all we can in trying to prevent it from coming.”
He said other countries such as our closest neighbour Australia had imposed much tougher measures to address the pandemic.
“Covid-19 is here to stay, for the capital city, there will not be any lockdowns,” Parkop said.
“We must accept that the virus is here to stay.
“Those who want to get the vaccine, it is up to you, those who do not want, you think you are okay, it is up to you.
“Life must go on.”
He said the new look service station added to the transformation of the city.
“This is a great achievement, to provide world class services,” Parkop said.
“It is part of the growth and transformation of the city.
“We are on the pathway to lifting our city, all facets of the life of the city, this is a win-win for everyone,” he said.
