Businesses urged to be vigilant

Lae News, Normal

THE Lae Chamber of Commerce (LCCI) has warned its members of an upsurge in crime in the city.
In its weekly newsletter, the LCCI is cautioning business houses to be vigilant especially when travelling in and out of the Miles area.
The chamber said that crime was on the rise and extra precaution should be taken.
The newsletter said there had been many incidents of armed hold-ups, shooting and stoning recently as the city filled up with more and more people, many of whom were itinerants.
The advice said many people flocked to Lae at this time of year to shop, seek employment or just to see the bright lights.
Going on past experiences, carjackings were also common at this time of season.
LCCI members were also urged to be vigilant from now till the New Year.
