Businesses warned of rise in crime
National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N’dranou has urged businesshouses to take extra precaution when moving large amount of money in Port Moresby.
He said criminal activities were picking up again after slightly decreasing during the festive season.
N’dranou said businesshouses and individuals must have better security arrangements when transporting large amount of money and goods.
“Everyone must be on full alert and be careful,” he said.
“Anything can happen.”
N’dranou said anyone needing escort should call either police or security companies.
Meanwhile, N’dranou said the year had started well with many arrests being made by members of the “policing the police team” unit.
The unit looks after internal investigations of into allegations of criminal conduct within the police department.
“We will continue to work and need the support from the public to provide us with more information,” N’dranou said.
“Police on duty and causing trouble to the public must be arrested and even suspended from work.”
He said rogue officers should not stay on in the department to spoil the image of police.
