EASTERN Highlands businessman Simon Sia has given K5,000 to Goroka Secondary School to send a team to the national quiz competition in Port Moresby.

He promised that his firm, Bintangor Trading, will sponsor a provincial school debate competition next year.

Six students accompanied by two teachers are in Port Moresby for the competition.

Principal John Onga said the team comprised Grade 11 students, while National Capital District secondary schools would be fielding Grade 12 students.

Onga said such a worthwhile event would not only showcase a student’s academic brilliance but enhance their confidence as well.

He and Sia applauded the management of the Institute of Business Studies (IBS) for organising the school competition.

“Because of the importance of our future intellects, I  will sponsor a Eastern Highlands quiz competition next year so that the champion secondary school represents this province at the national level,” Sia said.

Onga said he had written to local MPs to support the school.

However, he said none had responded.
