POLICE in West New Britain have charged a Chinese businessman with illegally connecting and tampering with PNG Power service lines.
Provincial police commander Supt Jim Namora said Lin Hua, 45, from Futzing province, China, operated a shop at Aling, Kimbe, and allegedly made illegal connections from the power pole located near the shop.
Fraud and anti-corruption investigators attached to the Kimbe police station arrested Hua. It is alleged that he knowingly and willfully tampered with an easy-pay meter installed by PNG Power and unlawfully used electricity totaling K18,952.68.
He allegedly ignored the earlier warning by PNG Power officials and police to stop doing the illegal connections. He was taken to the police station and charged after police secured an interpreter.
Meanwhile, police in Kimbe are calling on people employed in Asian shops to report any illegal conduct to the authorities.
