A businessman who believes in leaving behind positive legacies is volunteering to fix the main Kudjip bus stop along the Highlands Highway.
Paul Poro, a man from the Sekaing tribe, who owns and operates a shop at Kudjip market, is using his own resources to concrete blocks to extend the bus stop space and cover up the untidy drain whichposed health risks for vendors and the public.
Poro told The National yesterday from the work site that he wanted to provide a better environment for public and the vendors.
“This is the responsibility of the national Government to create economic opportunities for the people along the highways,” he said.
“However, from my observation as a local businessman, I’ve seen that the Government cannot help its people, so it’s better, we as individuals take the initiative to improve our lives by creating a conducive economic environment.
“Money is not important, it’s the people who maintain cash flow and all else. This bus stop has been in existence for the last 50-60 years since the Highlands Highway was been built.
“We have a provincial hospital here at Kudjip. International community also lives and works here.
“Kudjip market and bus stop is the first impression to Jiwaka.
“As a local businessman, I want to create a good impression of Kudjip and Jiwaka.
“I am sacrificing about K30,000 of my own money on this bus stop extension project and proper drainage system. Our young people and mothers will now be trading their wares in a conducive environment.
“The bus stop was very filthy and an eyesore posing health risks and also very overcrowded, causing traffic congestion and accidents.
“This will no longer be the case. I want to leave a legacy before I die,” Poro said.
Kudjip LLG councillor Paul Ju commended Poro for his initiative to polish up Kudjip market.
He appealed to other businesshouses and individuals to contribute into beautifying and and making Kudjip a better place.
