A BUSINESSMAN in Jiwaka has made a farmer’s dream come true – to own a vehicle.

Businessman Kennedy Blas bought the vehicle for farmer Banda Ongol, 35, from the Sereka tribe at Olna village, Upper Jimi.

Ongol had been turning over all his farm proceeds to Blas hoping that one day he would own a vehicle.

Blas paid the balance of the cost of the vehicle, which was delivered to Ongol last Tuesday.

Blas, 30, hails from the Wolupi Tribe at Kiam village and owns a car hire and bus service. He also owns a service station and a guest house.

On top of that, he runs a ministry, which supports churches in the province.

Ongol thanked Blas for the vehicle describing him as Good Samaritan.

“I was not expecting such a thing in my life. To have a vehicle one day was a dream. I didn’t expect to have one because a vehicle costs a lot of money,’’ he said.

Ongol said he first met Blas in 2008.

“I expressed my interest to him and was told to be given his support,’’ he said.

“That assurance I received from him prompted me to look at ways to raise income. I have been sweating my guts out toiling the land to grow crops.”

He also has a piggery and a trade store.

Ongol said he started to turn over to Blas a portion of his income for safekeeping.

“I always hand deliver any money because I know I would misuse it if I keep it,’’ he said.

Ongol said he has achieved his dream through determination and hard work.

Blas told The National that he liked helping people.

“I have a heart to help people especially small entrepreneurs and subsistence farmers who are struggling to do something,’’ he said.
