A COMMUNITY leader and former political candidate in Upper Mendi has called on Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to reverse his decision and reinstate Don Polye as minister for finance and treasury.
Businessman James Hesse, who contested the 2002 and 2007 general election, said the landowner issue the prime minister was referring to as his reason to withdraw Polye’s financial powers was minor.
“O’Neill must realise that he has sacked his own brother, someone who had been with him from day one at Sir Mekere Morauta’s Paga Hill residence when they held hands and prayed together, at the Government House at Konedobu when they were harassed and prevented by police from entering the gate and when they walked side by side into the parliament chamber to remain as the new government,” Hesse said.
“Polye was the power-breaker who gave O’Neill the top seat he is now enjoying, not the deputy prime minister.
“If O’Neill is worried about returning to form government after the election, be rest assured that with Polye at your side, nothing is impossible.
“So our humble request is to give Polye back his job.”
