NETBALL Papua New Guinea received a timely boost of K25,000 for preparations for the National Junior Championships from July 4- 8 in Port Moresby.
Businesswoman Viki Mosin, a long-time backer of the sport, said she was keen to see the sport develop and helping stage national championships was a good way to do that.
“This financial support should help Netball PNG promote the code across the country,” Mosin said of her donation.
Netball PNG president Julienne Leka-Maliaki, who receive the cheque said: “Sponsorship these days is always a challenge to acquire, particularly at this time as we prepare for the National Junior Championships in two weeks.
“The funding that’s been given to us will be used for capacity building as far as our technical officials are concerned.”
Commenting on the national junior championships, Leka-Maliaki said: “Six associations have confirmed their participation so far and we expect to confirm 15 associations all up for the junior championships.
“The new associations include Jiwaka and Goroka while Oro netball returns to the national scene.
“We expect about 1500 young girls from the ages 13 to U21 to take part in the tournament.” Leka-Maliaki thanked Mosin for her continued support over the years, from the community to the national level.
“I’d like to thank Viki and her team, we have a strong partnership that goes a long way in supporting netball in the country”
