Buskens hails participation of landowners in business

LOCAL landowners in resource project areas venturing into business as a result of resource benefits and entitlements is always encouraging, says Oil Search Ltd, official says.
Oil Search stakeholder engagement general manager Leon Buskens says about K1.6 billion gross value of contracts have been given to landowner companies over the last eight years.
“That goes to show the sustainability part of these project’s presence and landowners benefits,” he said.
Buskens said this during the a panel discussion at the Asia Pacific Business Forum in Port Moresby on Friday and stressed that local landowner companies were important partners for Oil Search.
He said they provided vital support services such as catering, labour hire, security services, building and civil construction while giving jobs and other community support to hundreds of local people.
“How can we grow our local businesses and for us, we have got landowner companies, beyond that we look at how can we grow our businesses, from the landowner companies that we engage in apart from giving them business, we also try to make them grow and be sustainable and also diversify,” Buskens said.
