Busy, busy busy: Work keeping Sir Julius on the go

NEW Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan has had a busy schedule in the lead-up to the Governors’ Conference in Madang this week.
He was in Cairns, Australia, on government business before returning to Port Moresby last Tuesday.
Sir Julius was in Kavieng on Friday for the tourism board swearing-in and signing of contract for the New Hanover trans-island and Mussau ring roads upgrade.
“This has been a very busy month,” he said.
“My government has had a very busy 2018 with the opening of major infrastructure projects right across the province, including the two government houses in Kavieng and Namatanai and the four-lane Kavavu Avenue in Kavieng.
“It is not easy to run government.
“In fact, it is hard and sometimes gruelling with distance to cover over land and sea, and logistics to manage.”
Sir Julius returned to Port Moresby on Sunday for onward travel yesterday to the governors’ conference.
New Ireland would present two important position papers on autonomy and the extractive and resource industry and recovery model for the econom as promised by Sir Julius’s People’s Progress Party during the general election last year. Sir Julius will return to Port Moresby on special invitation to deliver the keynote address at the Divine Word University fundraising dinner on Friday.
It was during his term as prime minister that the university was established in 1996 along with the universities of Goroka, Natural Resources and Environment and Pacific Adventist.
Next week’s Parliament sitting will absorb the whole week in Port Moresby.
Sir Julius will then take his provincial cabinet to Lae for his project-implementation committee and provincial executive council meeting on July 21.
His provicial executive council members will take a detour and visit Western Highlands, Northern and West New Britain before returning home to celebrate New Ireland Day on July 27 and 28.
