Butterflies manage draw with Wests
The National, Thursday 19th April 2012
ROUND seven main game of the Port Moresby rugby league (POMRFL) played on Tuesday saw Butterflies come from behind to force a 14-14 draw with Kavo West.
It was former Mendi Muruks hooker and Vipers new recruit Ate Bina-Wabo who kicked a penalty on the stroke of fulltime to help Butterflies to the draw.
Due to the launching of Digicel Cup last Sunday which began at noon, three Port Moresby rugby league matches were moved to Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday respectively to accommodate the event.
POMRFL manager Meke Maino said all the games for the weekend were moved forward due to the National Soccer League grand final between Hekari United and Eastern Star on Saturday while Sunday’s programme was the launching of the Digicel Cup.
Wabo played a lone hand in scoring 10 points with a try and three conversions.
Butterflies were trailing 14-12 with five minutes left on the clock when centre Charlie Kaipil opened up Wests left side defence before been pulled down metres short of the line.
Butterflies were awarded a penalty for an illegal tackle with Wabo levelling the scores.
This weekend’s match against Hohola Dragons will see the return of Butterflies stars of Kemi Yo, Jacob Kale, Dixie Ani and Michael Boeo to beef up the pack.
The points table as of last weekend round six is: Brothers 10, Dobo Warriors 10, Royals 9, Paga Panthers 8, Tarangau 7, Maiari Eagles 6, Souths 6, Hawks 5, Defence 5, Butterflies 5, Magani 4, Kone Storms 4, Kavo West 4, Kone Tigers 3, Post Puma 2 and Hohola Dragons yet to register a win in their maiden season.
